We started the day with Lauds in the chapel of the Procura. After breakfast, we listened to a two-part conference by Fr. Timothy K. Healy, SJ, who introduced us to the theme of spiritual discernment. He pointed out that discernment is always set in a specific context. When we proceed to elect the Superior General and the General Councillors, we should pay attention to three contexts: the Congregation, the Church and the world. Discernment as a spiritual process must be rooted in prayer and a good knowledge of my own heart, which is a result of confronting myself with the Word of God. Our decisions which we find by means of this process, are a gift of the Holy Spirit: He leads to inner freedom, and thus we will take the right choice.
At noon, Fr. Timothy celebrated Mass with us. In his homily, he said that Advent is a time of hope and a time of the fulfilled promise of God, who comes to save us.
From 3 p.m. until the evening we were in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
The next three days (7-9 December) will be dedicated to the continuation of our discernment process and the election of the new Superior General and the General Councillors.
