A group of four students from Pallotti High School took part in the 2023 program “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow”. According to the information given on https://csr.samsung.com/en/programViewSft.do, the contest is based on science, technology, engineering and math. It is created to foster problem solving skills while promoting the positive impact young minds can have on our society. The contest inspires the participants to tackle the emerging challenges and produce tangible innovations to help improve the society.
The Facebook Page of the Belizean Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology https://www.facebook.com/belizemoecst informed that the team of Pallotti High School was chosen from over 100 schools from the Latin American and Caribbean region, out of more than nine thousand students. They had developed a device that helps to reduce accidents and trauma to persons with impaired vision. The two-piece set – glass and stick – detects obstacles up to a metre away and alerts the user via a vibration.
The team had to present their project in Panama City where they travelled together with their teacher and coach Doctor Flowers and with Sr. Clara Teul, the Principal of Pallotti High School. On 26 October 2023, they emerged as Champions and won the 2023 contest. Congratulations!
