When these things begin to take place,
look up and hold your heads high,
because the time of your redemption is drawing near.
Lk 21:28
Verses 21:25-27 speak of revolutionary events and signs. They precede the “coming of the Son of Man with great power and glory” and cause fear and consternation.
However, the great turning point comes. Jesus says, “When these things begin, look up and hold your heads high, because your redemption is drawing near.”
This does mean: take a different attitude. Have courage and stand on your feet, rise up! Leave behind everything that frightens you, bends you and weighs you down.
Discover – perhaps anew – the greatness and dignity that you have. You are God’s image!
Stand up straight and with your head held high, look up, look ahead and see who is coming, what awaits you: “your redemption is near”.
God is near, he is here and is coming always anew. Not only at the end of the world or at the end of my life, but daily, hidden and mysterious. Even in major or minor personal crises, Jesus’ words apply to me, to us: then straighten up, lift up your head, and look up because your redemption is near.
How comforting and filled with hope!
