On May 17 this year In Yekaterinburg, in our Ural parish, an important event took place for us, which gathered many parishioners. We hosted Gerhard Cardinal Ludwig Müller from the Vatican, who on his way to Tobolsk came for a stay in Yekaterinburg. On this day, as every Thursday, after Mass and vespers we had Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. This time, however, a bit longer, because the plane on which the Cardinal was to arrive, was delayed. However, it did not affect the joyful atmosphere of waiting for such an extraordinary guest. The most important thing for us was that the Cardinal finally reached our church. He was accompanied by his personal secretary, Fr. Sławomir Śledziewski and priest D. Stańczyk – the parish priest from Tobolsk.
After the official welcome, everyone had the opportunity to personally greet our guest who did not hide his joy in meeting us. At the end Cardinal Müller gave us his solemn blessing. The meeting was captured in photographs and that will remind us of the family atmosphere of those moments. The “trouble maker” of this great movement in Siberia was the Mother of God, who in her image of the Fatima statue, as a pilgrim flew from Poland to Tobolsk to stay there.
Our dear guest, Cardinal Muller stayed with us until the next day, to welcome solemnly the arrival of the Mother of God in her image, and on Pentecost Sunday May 20, he blessed the crowns that will decorate the statue of Mary. This event coincided with the 98th birthday of Saint John Paul II, whose figure was brought earlier to the Tobol church. A faithful son, who had words TOTUS TUUS in the papal coat of arms, finally awaited the arrival of his beloved Mother.
